From April 25 to May 30, Pera Film hosts a film program: Tracing the Memory. The nine-movie program brings to the spectators the stories of the characters who pursue, through memories, the past’s ghosts, unearthed truths, and the traces of collective memory.
The program offerings include Martina Kudlacek’s In the Mirror of Maya Deren, an enchanting portrait of a groundbreaking artist as well as a sublime introduction to her astonishingly beautiful and poetic artworks; Reconstruction, 2003 Camera d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, a magical love story that captivates the audience with constantly changing narrative forms and shapes throughout the movie; Dancing Alone, an open-ended experiment that comes across, at first glance, as a true story; Krisha, a dark humor on alcoholism through the daring perspective of Trey Edward Shults, the director’s debut film starring his own family members; Matangi / Maya / M.I.A., personal footage of the musician M.I.A. and her close friends chronicling her journey, spanning 22 years, from a young immigrant in London to an international pop star, and finally, Belonging and Companionship by Aykan Safoğlu, a collection of the works brought to life between 2013-2015, where the artist, as an immigrant himself, traces loss, death, belonging, and relationships.
Screening tickets are 10 TL (reduced museum admission). Tickets are available at Biletix. As per legal regulations, all our screenings are restricted to persons over 18 years of age, unless stated otherwise.

Program Trailer
Men were the first nudes in Turkish painting. The majority of these paintings were academic studies executed in oil paint; they were part of the education of artists that had finally attained the opportunity to work from the live model. The gender of the models constituted an obstacle in the way of characterizing these paintings as ‘nudes’.
Each memory tells an intimate story; each collection presents us with the reality of containing an intimate story as well. The collection is akin to a whole in which many memories and stories of the artist, the viewer, and the collector are brought together. At the heart of a collection is memory, nurtured from the past and projecting into the future.
Martín Zapater y Clavería, born in Zaragoza on November 12th 1747, came from a family of modest merchants and was taken in to live with a well-to-do aunt, Juana Faguás, and her daughter, Joaquina de Alduy. He studied with Goya in the Escuelas Pías school in Zaragoza from 1752 to 1757 and a friendship arose between them which was to last until the death of Zapater in 1803.
