Greek Film Days

November 21 - 26, 2023

Pera Museum welcomes Greek Film Days, bringing classic and award-winning films together from the creative directors of Greek cinema in Istanbul for the second time.

Greek Film Days, organized in partnership with EMEIS Cultural Collective from Greece and istos film and istos publishing from Turkey, will take place at the Pera Museum Auditorium on November 21-26, 2023. Within the scope of the film program, a total of 24 films from the 60s to the 90s will meet the audience for the first time in Turkey with restored copies.

Opening with Jules Dassin's extraordinary film The Rehearsal (1988), which he shot secretly in a basement, the program also includes classics such as Theo Angelopoulos' four-hour epic masterpiece The Travelling Players (1975), considered the pinnacle of the New Greek Cinema, and Dimos Avdeliodis' award-winning impressive coming-of-age film The Tree We Hurt (1986). Focusing on themes of collective memory, human rights, migration and diaspora, the program also brings together landmark examples of Greek documentary cinema such as Megara (1972), Last Stop Kreuzberg (1975) and Macedonian Wedding (1960).

This program’s screenings are free admission. Drop in, no reservations. As per legal regulations, all our screenings are restricted to persons over 18 years of age, unless stated otherwise.

Midnight Horror Stories: The Last Ferry
Galip Dursun

I remembered a game as I was waiting in the passenger lounge for the ferry to arrive just a few minutes ago. A game we used to play at home when I was young, in my country that is very far away from here, a relic from the distant past; I don’t even remember how we used to play it. The kind of game that makes me feel a thousand times lonelier than I already am among the crowd waiting to get on the ferry.
