Directed by Oscar nominee Tia Lessin and Emmy nominee Emma Pildes, this timely documentary, which will have its Turkish premiere at Pera Film, tells the revelatory story of an underground network of abortion activists who called themselves Jane.

Using code names, fronts, and safe houses, the group of unlikely outlaws risked their personal and professional lives to defy the state legislature that outlawed abortion, the Catholic Church that condemned it, and the Chicago Mob that was profiting from it to help women in need in the years before Roe v. Wade. Featuring never-before-seen first-hand accounts from those who were there, the documentary chronicles Jane’s work providing care to over 11,000 women. With reproductive rights once again in the headlines – The Janes offers a stark portrait of the U.S. before the constitutional right to abortion was affirmed.

Giorgio de Chirico was born on July 10, 1888, in Volos, Greece, to an Italian family. His mother, Gemma Cervetto, was from a family of Genoa origin, but most likely she was born in Izmir. His father, Evaristo, was born on June 21, 1841 in the Büyükdere district of Istanbul.
