Pera Film presents In the Depths of Souls program from April 11 to May 7, parallel to the exhibition Paula Rego: The Story of Stories that opened at the Pera Museum in December.
Paula Rego's paintings reflect the complex emotions and thoughts in people's inner worlds while also addressing many social issues. In this program, the audience will discover the dramatic imagery often used in Rego's art in documentaries about her and witness the reflections of conflicts and pain in the human mind, as well as productions referring to the abortion series.
The program titled In the Depths of Souls presents; A Woman's Affair, which tells the dramatic and moving story of Marie-Louise Giraud, who illegally performed abortions during World War II; Paula Rego: Telling Tales, a documentary that explores the thoughts and inspirations behind Rego's art with scenes and interviews from her personal life; The Last Art Film, a documentary that invites us on an insider's journey with Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry, Paula Rego and many other artists, questioning what started their creative process and what keeps them going; Paula Rego: Secrets and Stories, an intimate look at Rego's life and work, directed by Rego's son Nick Willing; and Jane, which tells the story of the women who called themselves Jane in the 1970s and founded a service for women seeking safe abortions.
Tickets are available at Biletix and the museum. As per legal regulations, all our screenings are restricted to persons over 18 years of age, unless stated otherwise.

Paula Rego is a Portuguese/British artist who revolutionised the ways women are represented and is not one to compromise her truths. The Story of Stories shows how Rego authentically confronts oppression, authority, and institutional violence while not being afraid to reveal her own personal nature and socio-political context.
Mersad Berber (1940-2012), is one of the greatest and the most significant representatives of Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Yugoslav art in the second half of the 20th century. His vast body of expressive and unique works triggered the local art scene’s recognition into Europe as well as the international stage.
French artist Félix Ziem is one of the most original landscape painters of the 19thcentury. The exhibition Wanderer on the Sea of Light presents Ziem as an artist who left his mark on 19th century painting and who is mostly known for his paintings of Istanbul and Venice, where the city and the sea are intertwined.
