Pera Film’s March program is saluting women in sports. The selection presents a diverse range of stories of female athletes with astounding compelling stories. From fiction to documentary the program Gold Medal: Women in Sports explores the strength and stamina of incredible women. Personal Best captures the electric atmosphere of the 1980 Olympic Trials, Venus and Serena gives an unprecedented access to the world-famous tennis player sisters, Sarah Prefers to Run tackles the anxieties of a young athlete who lives only for the race, New Generation Queens focuses on the story of Zanzibar's determined women soccer team, Perfect follows the Canadian synchronized swimming team beyond the beauty, Girl Unbound presents an intimate portrait of Maria Toorpakai, who defies threats to herself and her family in order to represent Pakistan as an internationally competitive squash player. Blood Road tracks ultra-endurance athlete Rebecca Rusch and her riding partner, Huyen Nguyen, as they pedal 1,200 miles along the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail; The Longest Race explores how women in Kenya’s Iten, home to many of the best long distance runners in the world, are changing the socioeconomic landscape in their region through athletics. The captivating stories push boundaries as well as challenge pre-conceived notions. As Billie Jean King says “Champions keep playing until they get it right.”

A firm believer in the idea that a collection needs to be upheld at least by four generations and comparing this continuity to a relay race, Nahit Kabakcı began creating the Huma Kabakcı Collection from the 1980s onwards. Today, the collection can be considered one of the most important and outstanding examples among the rare, consciously created, and long-lasting ones of its kind in Turkey.
