everything is film

May 15 - June 1, 2024

Pera Film presents everything is film program, in collaboration with DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, one of the world's leading film heritage institutions.

Pera Film highlights the importance of interinstitutional cultural exchange and cinema heritage through its new collaboration with DFF, specially arranged for International Museum Day. Located in Frankfurt, Germany, DFF, founded in 1949, carries out its mission to preserve and share film culture with the world through its museum, cinema, film archive, festivals, digital platforms, research and digitization projects, and education programs. The institute's film archive hosts classics and contemporary examples of German cinema and significant works from world cinema, ranging from documentaries shedding light on cinema history to experimental films, from classics to innovative works.

The program, named after DFF's motto (Everything is film, and film is everything), curated by institute curators and prepared with films selected from the DFF collection. features four films from different periods of German cinema. The program enables viewers to watch Es (1966), which traces existential angst and societal disillusionment; Mädchen in Uniform (1931), a groundbreaking story of forbidden love and rebellion within the confines of a strict boarding school; Brand in der Oper (1930), a visually stunning reflection of humanity's chaos and tragedy through an opera house; and Weak Spot (1975), a gripping thriller following complex webs of crime and deception.

Film screenings within this program are accessible with a discounted museum entrance ticket. Tickets can be purchased from Biletix or the reception of Pera Museum. Per legal regulations, all screenings are restricted to persons over 18 years of age unless stated otherwise.

Three people sleeping side by side. On the uncomfortable seats of the stuffy airplane in the air. Three friends. I’m the friend in the window seat. The other two are a couple, Emre and Melisa. I’m alone, they are together. And another difference. I’ve only closed my eyes. They are asleep.

Return from Vienna

Return from Vienna

Józef Brandt harboured a fascination for the history of 17th century Poland, and his favourite themes included ballistic scenes and genre scenes before and after the battle proper –all and sundry marches, returns, supply trains, billets and encampments, patrols, and similar motifs illustrating the drudgery of warfare outside of its culminating moments.

Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

Between 1963 and 1966 Andy Warhol worked at making film portraits of all sorts of characters linked to New York art circles. Famous people and anonymous people were filmed by Andy Warhol’s 16 mm camera, for almost four minutes, without any instructions other than ‘to get in front of the camera’.
