Henri-Cartier Bresson

Biography

Henri-Cartier Bresson

Henri Cartier-Bresson practiced, after the fashion of the surrealists whom he knew, an automatic writing applied to the world of the image: "To photograph", he said, "is to bring the head, the eye and the heart onto the same line of the surveyor. Photography is a mode of living." His oeuvre draws on the better part of the obvious banality of the events around us in order to reveal in them, in the passage of a 'decisive instant', a universal dimension. Bringing more than 100 photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson to the audience, the exhibition was co-curated by Robert Delpire in collaboration with Pera Museum, Magnum Photos and Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson. This catalogue was prepared in parallel with the exhibition. In addition to a portrait of Ara Güler in which she photographed the artist, you will find 20 photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson and various excerpts of the artist.
