Yakto Cannot Be Abandoned!

Director: Diyar Saraçoğlu
Türkiye, 2024, 18’, DCP, color
Turkish, Arabic with Turkish, English subtitles

Gümüşgöze, formerly known as Yakto, is a neighborhood in Harbiye, outside the center of Defne, where people mostly live in low-rise houses located in small gardens. Like many parts of the city, Gümüşgöze was seriously affected by the February 6 Earthquakes. With lives lost, houses destroyed, ties broken, daily life itself has become a "coping process"... In the post-earthquake days, when the support from the municipality and the government oscillates between absence and inadequacy, the people of Gümüşgöze in Hatay blend the solidarity practices they received from history and culture with what they have learned today and try to chart their own path.

Yakto Cannot Be Abandoned! tries to witness this process by knowing and seeing why people want to stay in Gümüşgöze despite all this poverty.

Good News from the Skies

Good News from the Skies

Inspired by the exhibition And Now the Good News, which focusing on the relationship between mass media and art, we prepared horoscope readings based on the chapters of the exhibition. Using the popular astrological language inspired by the effects of the movements of celestial bodies on people, these readings with references to the works in the exhibition make fictional future predictions inspired by the horoscope columns that we read in the newspapers with the desire to receive good news about our day.
