Conference
December 16 - 17, 2022
Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum presents the Epigraphy of Weights Workshop for undergraduate and graduate students as part of its Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection. The program, which embraces an interdisciplinary perspective to explore the topics of weight and measures that are often overlooked in the studies on epigraphy, is designed with a view to providing young researchers working on ancient history and archeology with the necessary theoretical and practical foundation.
Attendees will enjoy seminars on the science of epigraphy on the first day of the two-day program, which consists of seminars and workshops. The second day of the program will focus on practical work, and the epigraphy of Anatolian weights will be further explored through case studies and workshops.
The Epigraphy of Weights Workshop will be held face to face at Pera Museum. The language of the program is Turkish. The program is free to attend and students coming from outside Istanbul have to pay for their own accommodation and transportation.
Each memory tells an intimate story; each collection presents us with the reality of containing an intimate story as well. The collection is akin to a whole in which many memories and stories of the artist, the viewer, and the collector are brought together. At the heart of a collection is memory, nurtured from the past and projecting into the future.
When regarding the paintings of Istanbul by western painters, Golden Horn has a distinctive place and value. This body of water that separates the Topkapı Palace and the Historical Peninsula, in which monumental edifices are located, from Galata, where westerners and foreign embassies dwell, is as though an interpenetrating boundary.
