“Classical Saturdays”
From Timber to Instrument

Pera Museum presents a new series of concerts from January to May 2016. Programmed by music writer Aydın Büke, this month’s “Classical Saturdays” series’ will take place on February 27, 2016 at 17:00.

Having played the cello at the İstanbul State Symphony Orchestra for many years and developed an interest in the production of string instruments during this period, Alp Altıner will talk about the evolution of string instruments over time and their stages of production in his lecture entitled, From Timber to Instrument. Since 1987, Alp Altıner has been actively building and restoring string instruments and has manufactured more than 30 violins, violas, and cellos, many of which are used by celebrated musicians in Turkey and abroad, including renowned Turkish violinist Cihat Aşkın. The string quartet students of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatoire will demonstrate the sounds of these instruments.

The following concerts of the series will feature various topics including instrument-making and compositions inspired by paintings. The “Classical Saturdays” concerts takes place on the second floor, Pera Museum Orientalist Paintings Collection Exhibition “Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters” gallery.

Admission 20 TL. Tickets can only be purchased on Biletix. Friends of Pera Museum can buy tickets from the museum with a 50% discount. Places are limited. There will be no entry once the performance has started.
