Write and Draw: Overcoming Reality with Play

Pera Adult

  • May 9, 2025 / 19:00

“One of the fastest ways to stop wars and the destruction of our planet is to resist,” says Marcel Dzama. The artist tackles issues such as wars, environmental destruction and mismanagement, sometimes with hopeful humor and sometimes inspired by the game of chess, which he uses as a form of strategic expression. The destruction of the planet, wars, leadership and governance affect us all, directly or indirectly. But how can we move forward in this affected state?

In this workshop, participants will come into contact with their worlds of meaning and creativity based on the concepts that Marcel Dzama frequently refers to; they will produce works by interacting with each other's creativity through painting and group work as well as writing techniques. At the end of the workshop, the participants visit the exhibition with the experience they had during the workshop and have the opportunity to look at the works with a different perspective.

Note: Participants do not need to know writing techniques or painting skills to participate in the workshop. The instructions are designed to facilitate writing and painting.

The Painter of Venice

The Painter of Venice

Pera Museum presents an exhibition of French artist Félix Ziem, one of the most original landscape painters of the 19th century.

Il Cavallo di Leonardo

Il Cavallo di Leonardo

In 1493, exactly 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci was finishing the preparations for casting the equestrian monument (4 times life size), which Ludovico il Moro, Duke of Milan commissioned in memory of his father some 12 years earlier.

Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel

Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel

In 1998 Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu collaborated on an obvious remake of Marcel Duchamp’s Roue de Bicyclette, his first “readymade” object. Duchamp combined a bicycle wheel, a fork and a stool to create a machine which served no purpose, subverting accepted norms of art.
