  • September 17, 2023 / 14:00

The workshop is led by Silva Bingaz, who contributed to Istanbuls Today with The Transformative Soul Deep Within and interprets the basis of photography as a rapprochement. The workshop will explore the common points of the photographic journey of artists such as Christer Strömholm, Ed van der Elsken, Francesca Woodman, Hellen van Meene, Sarah Moon and Véronique Bourgoin and the routes they follow, aiming to develop a subjective perspective in photography.

The workshop will take place on different dates as two interconnected sessions.

Session 1 (September 15, 19:00): Silva Bingaz talks about the photographers with whom she has shared a memory and the school of thought that shaped her photography through her dialogues with the artists and selected photographs.

Session 2 (September 17, 14:00):Participants will discuss the photographs they have taken or liked, which they will either send to ogrenme@peramuzesi.org.tr before the workshop or bring.

Capacity: 20 people

Fee for the two-day workshop program: 350 TL

About Silva Bingaz
Silva Bingaz (b. Malatya), a photographer of Turkish and Armenian origins, lives and works in Istanbul. In her works, she attempts to reveal the human soul in the simplest way possible by focusing on its created values and efforts to protect itself from the hierarchy imposed by authority. Her images of urban landscapes and portraits of individuals allude to birth and death, masculinity and strength, and love and the unknown, all while searching to lift the veil on a city, beyond the specifics of time and place.

Paris Without End (1959-1965)

In the 60s, Alberto Giacometti paid homage to Paris, the city where he lived, by drawing its streets, cafés, and more private places like his studio and the apartment of his wife, Annette. These drawings would make up his last book, Paris sans fin (Paris Without End).

Seaside Leisure

Seaside Leisure

Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure: Nostalgia from Sea Baths to Beaches exhibition brought together photographs, magazines, comics, objects, and books from various private and institutional collections, and told a nostalgic story while also addressing the change and socialization of the norms of how Istanbulites used their free time. Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure was a documentary testament of the radical transformations in the Republic’s lifestyle.

Sea Baths

Sea Baths

It is understood from Evliya Çelebi’s well-known Book of Travels that the history of sea baths goes as far back as the 17th century; their acceptance and popularization take place in mid-19th century as a result of Westernization, among other things.
