For the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, the workshop focuses on listening to jazz music's unique character and the body's natural response to it. The workshop, where the body meets jazz music, opens a free space to explore the revitalization of movement. Rhythm games, dialogue with music, and interaction with others are the main tools used in this journey of discovery.
Instructors: Özge Dağ, Şule Zeynep Alton
Capacity: 20 people
Duration: 75 minutes
The event is free of charge. Reservation is required.
About Özge Dağ
As a body, music, movement and culture researcher, Dağ is a dancer who works on awareness with the support of different disciplines. She is passionate about authentic jazz dance, lindy hop, blues and tap dance disciplines. She has recently been focusing on therapeutic work based on the body's need for authentic movement in the moment, exploring the intersection of dance with body therapies and nonviolence consciousness-based work, and investigating movement's contribution to personal and collective joy.
About Şule Zeynep Alton
Alton is a dancer and educator who defines herself as a lifelong “learner” whose main focus is Authentic Jazz Dance, but who is also curious about different movement disciplines. Alton started her jazz dance journey by taking Tap lessons, and later she was introduced to Lindy hop and Blues. She still continues her research every day to better understand and embody history, philosophy, music and culture. Alton gives classes and workshops in Istanbul, frequently participates in festivals abroad and gives workshops to dance communities in different cities and countries.
