Maria by Callas: In Her Own Words

Pera Film is hosting the screening of the documentary Maria by Callas: In Her Own Words, directed by Tom Volf, dedicated to the great soprano Maria Callas, in collaboration with the Greek Consulate General in Istanbul. 

With the voice of actress Fanny Ardant that gives life to Maria Callas' words, the film, which consists of rare sections from Callas' interviews, opera performances and archive footage, will meet with the audience free of charge on March 16 and 23 at the Pera Museum Auditorium. 

The director Tom Volf will be in conversation following the screening of 23th March at 19.00.

This program’s screenings are free admissions. Drop in, no reservations. As per legal regulations, all our screenings are restricted to persons over 18 years of age, unless stated otherwise. No reservation, limited seats.

1638, the year Louis XIV was born –his second name, Dieudonné, alluding to his God-given status– saw the diffusion of a cult of maternity encouraged by the very devout Anne of Austria, in thanks for the miracle by which she had given birth to an heir to the French throne. Simon François de Tours (1606-1671) painted the Queen in the guise of the Virgin Mary, and the young Louis XIV as the infant Jesus, in the allegorical portrait now in the Bishop’s Palace at Sens.
