Shadow Figures Take Stage
Uncovering the mysterious shadow play, a Chinese cultural tradition! This two-phased workshop first takes us on an adventure with the young warrior who seeks ice at Tang Bohua’s short animation “The Country of Summer Insects”. We use recycling materials, cardboards, eva craft foams and paints to create our animated shadow play characters. This will be followed by an analysis of the lights and shadows in the Xu Bing’s installation “Background Story”, unveiling the stage and backstage details. Through lights and shadow play trials with our own characters, we design our very own shadow play theatre.
As we have limited space at the workshop space, children’s works will be exhibited digitally. Also exhibited at the workshop area are a selection of the works from the summer workshops.
