Tracing the Memory
From April 25 to May 30, Pera Film hosts a film program: Tracing the Memory. The nine-movie program brings to the spectators the stories of the characters who pursue, through memories, the past’s ghosts, unearthed truths, and the traces of collective memory.
The program offerings include Martina Kudlacek’s In the Mirror of Maya Deren, an enchanting portrait of a groundbreaking artist as well as a sublime introduction to her astonishingly beautiful and poetic artworks; Reconstruction, 2003 Camera d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, a magical love story that captivates the audience with constantly changing narrative forms and shapes throughout the movie; Dancing Alone, an open-ended experiment that comes across, at first glance, as a true story; Krisha, a dark humor on alcoholism through the daring perspective of Trey Edward Shults, the director’s debut film starring his own family members; Matangi / Maya / M.I.A., personal footage of the musician M.I.A. and her close friends chronicling her journey, spanning 22 years, from a young immigrant in London to an international pop star, and finally, Belonging and Companionship by Aykan Safoğlu, a collection of the works brought to life between 2013-2015, where the artist, as an immigrant himself, traces loss, death, belonging, and relationships.
