Ambassador – İ. Ata Doğruel
31 March 2017 / 15:00 - 21:00
Pera Museum is presenting a performance program entitled Look Again between March 31 and April 2, 2017 in collaboration with Performistanbul. Inspired by Pera Museum Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation’s collection exhibitions, the program features performances by artists AslieMk, Ekin Bernay, and I. Ata Doğruel.
Pera Museum’s new public program Look Again presented in collaboration with Performistanbul aims to celebrate the art of performance as well as the visitor experience through the museum’s collection exhibitions. Curated by Simge Burhanoğlu, founding director of Performistanbul Look Again will take place over three days throughout the Pera Museum’s collection exhibitions: Intersecting World: Ambassadors and Painters, Coffee Break: Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics, and Anatolian Weights and Measures. The artists I. Ata Doğruel, AslieMk, and Ekin Bernay have been working closely with the museum’s collections and will be presenting their own interpretations. This performance program hopes to facilitate a new look into the museum’s collection and exhibiting practices.
İ. Ata Doğruel’s performance Ambassador focuses on the exhibition Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters based on the Orientalist Painting Collection. The performance casts a new look at the ambassador portrait paintings from the 17th and 19th centuries, reinterpreting them by discussing the notion of duality. Guided by art, the exhibition narrates the meandering paths of diplomatic history and introduces colorful characters. Doğruel engages in an abstract interpretation of the dual lives of these colorful characters, i.e., ambassadors and painters.
Friday, March 31, 15:00 - 21:00
Saturday, April 1, 12:00 - 18:00
Sunday, April 2, 12:00 - 18:00
One of Performistanbul artists, I. Ata Doğruel (b. Kütahya, 1991) focuses on concepts such as abstraction and resilience, pushing his physical and intellectual limits. He began his undergraduate studies at Koç University’s Law School, currently continuing them at the Faculty of Media and Visual Arts (MAVA). The artist has staged performances such as 9 days of hunger and 13 days of silence, where he discovers his self, nature, and the universe, and aims to provoke further questions.
