MIYAZAKI Hayao
Born in Tokyo, 1941. After graduating the Faculty of Politics and Economics at Gakushuin University in 1963, he joined TOEI DOGA (present TOEI ANIMATION) and participated in the establishment of Studio Ghibli in 1985. His most notable works are Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984), Laputa: The Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Princess Mononoke (1997), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (2008) and many others. Spirited Away won the Golden Bear at the 52nd Berlin International Film Festival and the Oscar for the Best Animated Feature Film at the 75th Academy Awards. MIYAZAKI received the Career Golden Lion Prize at the 62nd Venice Film Festival for his achievement as an outstanding animation film director. He is now an executive director of The Ghibli Musem, Mitaka (opened in 2001) for which he was in charge of planning and the design.
