Around the World in 400 Years:
A Journey between Netherlands and Turkey

Pera Museum, between 25 February – 24 March 2012, organized educational activities for children.
Turkey and Netherlands were celebrating 400 years of relations. Due to this diplomatic, commercial and cultural cooperation there was an exhibition held at Pera Museum beginning on the 21st of January 2012. This exhibition had fun and different educational programs for different age groups.
Around the World in 400 Years: A Journey Between Netherlands and Turkey educational program prepared for children aged 5-14; the program offered a fun adventure and journey into the two countries - Netherlands and Turkey. The program activities diverse in concepts these were: “Paper Tulips”,” Nostalgic Costumes” and “You and Me on My Canvas”.

PAPER TULIPS
The Paper Tulips workshop, underlined the importance of tulips especially in the culture of the Netherlands. Children explored this culture by creating their own tulip gardens with colorful different materials like using crêpe papers.

NOSTALGIC COSTUMES
The Nostalgic Costumes workshop covered 17th and 18th centuries’ casual clothing and accessories of Ottoman Empire and the Dutch Republic. This workshop brang the past life to today’s world. Children has got the chance to create these hats and accessories by using different materials such as felt, paper, lace, beads, rope, feathers and ribbons.

YOU AND ME ON MY CANVAS
You and Me on My Canvas workshop, aimed to bring out the creativity of children by using the portraits from the temporary exhibition. Children used acrylic paint and their imagination to model each other posing with different hats of that period/century.
